Rwanda, Korea deepen police cooperation through training, capacity building

Rwanda and South Korea are deepening police cooperation, with a focus on education, training and capacity building between their law enforcement institutions.

On Friday, August 21, Inspector General of Police Felix Namuhoranye met Korean National Police University President Superintendent General Kim Ki-jong in Asan City, where they discussed expanding cooperation in police education and capacity-building programmes.

The meeting followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rwanda National Police and Korean National Police Agency on Thursday, August 20.

The pact provides a framework for cooperation in combating transnational organised crime, information and expertise sharing, training and other capacity-building programmes.

Namuhoranye and Rwanda’s Ambassador to South Korea, Nkubito Manzi Bakuramutsa, also attended a graduation ceremony at the Korean National Police University, where three Rwandan law enforcement officers graduated with master’s degrees in policing and law enforcement-related fields.

The graduates were RNP officers IP Thomas Akimana and IP Yvette Tumukunde Mutabazi, and RIB officer Evariste Nkubito.

Two other RNP officers are currently pursuing PhD programmes at the university, further strengthening Rwanda’s investment in specialised police education and professional development.
