Rwandan delegation on trade, investment mission in Brazil

A Rwandan business delegation in Brazil is holding talks with government agencies, companies and business organisations as the two countries explore cooperation in agriculture, investment, trade and skills development.

The five-day mission, which runs from August 17 to 21, is led by Ministry of Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Chantal Tuyishimire and brings together officials from government institutions and representatives of Rwanda’s private sector.

The delegation has so far held engagements in areas ranging from agricultural research to business investment and hospitality training.

One of the stops was the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), where the Rwandan delegation discussed agricultural research and innovation.

The delegation also met Brazilian companies to discuss business and investment opportunities in Rwanda, while engagements with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) focused on trade and investment cooperation.

In Santa Catarina State, the Rwandan delegation held talks with the state government on economic cooperation and investment opportunities and participated in business-to-business meetings between Rwandan companies and businesses from the state.

The mission has also produced an agreement in skills development.

Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fecomércio, the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of Santa Catarina, covering cooperation in skills development and hospitality.

The engagements come months after Rwanda and Brazil held their first Rwanda-Brazil Business Forum in Kigali in February 2026.

The forum brought together more than 60 business leaders from the two countries and resulted in two memoranda of understanding—one between the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and ApexBrasil, and another between the Rwandan private sector and its Brazilian counterpart.

The latest mission has brought the discussions into specific areas, including agricultural research, private-sector business links and skills development.

Rwanda and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1981. Their diplomatic engagement has expanded in recent years, with Brazil opening its embassy in Kigali in June 2025 and Rwanda opening its embassy in Brasília in 2024.

The two countries have also signed a visa waiver agreement.

The Rwandan delegation is expected to continue its engagements in Brazil through August 21, with business and government meetings focused on trade, investment and economic cooperation.
