President Paul Kagame on Tuesday, October 20, received Serap Güler, Minister of State at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, at Urugwiro Village in Kigali to discuss strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Germany.

According to a statement shared by the President’s official account, the discussions focused on expanding the two countries’ extensive bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Güler’s visit to Rwanda is part of a regional tour covering Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo from October 20 to 24. Germany’s Federal Foreign Office said the visit aims to advance peace, stability and progress in the Great Lakes region, which continues to face conflict and humanitarian challenges.

During her visit, Güler is also scheduled to hold political talks with Rwandan government officials and meet representatives of German and European companies operating in the country. The engagements are intended to explore opportunities for closer economic cooperation and investment.

Germany has identified sectors including agriculture, sustainable energy, critical raw materials, industry and digital technology as areas offering potential for greater economic engagement in the region. German business representatives are accompanying Güler to selected meetings to discuss possible investment opportunities.

Her regional programme also includes engagement with civil society organisations and local partners in Rwanda, as well as a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honour the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Rwanda and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1962. Their cooperation covers sustainable economic development, vocational training, employment, health, climate and energy, peacebuilding and digitalisation.
