Prime Minister Nsengiyumva meets UN chief for talks on cooperation and peace

Rwanda’s Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva met UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York during the 81st UN General Assembly to discuss security in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and ongoing peace efforts.

The leaders also discussed UN-Africa relations and the UN’s partnership with Rwanda, according to the UN’s official readout of their meeting.

Nsengiyumva is representing President Paul Kagame at the General Assembly.

While in New York, the prime minister also met Kuwait’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, to discuss strengthening relations between the two countries.

The General Assembly’s 81st session opened on 8 September. Its General Debate, where national leaders set out their positions on global issues, runs from 22 to 26 September and resumes on 28 September. 

This year’s theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
